Make Money From Your Blog’s RSS Feed With BidVertiser Ads

BidVertiser RSS AdsI received an email from BidVertiser today telling me about a new service - BidVertiser Ads for Feeds. Since I’ve used BidVertiser before on this blog and wrote a review of BidVertiser recently (see Make Money Review - Bidvertiser), I thought I would look into their new Ad service for RSS feeds. It might be another good way to make money blogging

The information about the service was fairly minimal, so to find out how it worked, I tried it out on one of my other blogs. I’d also noticed that to use the service, BidVertiser would need to re-publish my RSS feed. Because I currently use Feedburner and quite like the service, I had concerns about switching over to BidVertiser as my RSS feed provider. It would have meant publicizing a new feed address and trying to convert all of my existing subscribers to the new address.

Fortunately it occurred to me that even if I used BidVertiser to re-publish my RSS feed, I should still be able to alter the source of the Feedburner feed and therefore maintain the same feed address. No mess, no fuss - it should be transparent to all of my subscribers.

So I set about trying to achieve this. Here are the steps for those that are interested.

1. Login to BidVertiser (or sign up if you don’t already have an account).

2. Navigate to Manage BidVertisers -> Add New BidVertiser -> BidVertiser For Your Feed.

3. At this point I chose Add new BidVertiser under a new domain, because the blog I tried this out on hadn’t yet been set up in BidVertiser.

4. Now you can add the url of your Blog, the url of your existing feed and the url of your new feed to be published by BidVertiser (make a note of this as we will need it later to update our feed details at feedburner - should be something like http://feeds.bidvertiser.com/yourfeednamehere).

5. You’ll also need to choose your blog’s language and a category and sub-category for your blog content. These are important as they determine the ads you will get.

6. In order to activate your new feed, Bidvertiser require you to publish a new post on your blog which contains a Bidvertiser verification code. This code is used to make sure you are in fact the publisher of the feed you’re claiming. The post can be deleted again as soon as Bidvertiser has acknowledged your verification code - it took less than a minute for me.

7. You should now start to see Bidvertiser Ads appear at the bottom of each of the posts in your RSS feed. The last step is to update your Feedburner feed details with the new Bidvertiser feed. To do this, log in to Feedburner, select the relevant feed then click Edit Feed Details. Now you can enter the feed details from step 4 above. You subscribers should be none the wiser (and might even click on one or two of the ads…).

I have only just tried this out so I can’t say how effective this form of advertising will be. As I said earlier, there wasn’t a lot of detail on the BidVertiser site about setting it up, but the process ended up being fairly straight-forward. If anyone else has tried it, I would be interested to hear about your experience. Have BidVertiser RSS Ads helped you make money blogging?
