Make Money Review - Bidvertiser

I am writing this make money review because I received some feedback that I haven’t written much about blog money making programs lately. So in an effort to address this issue, I will start writing more articles about programs which help you to make money blogging.
So in my first make money review, I’m going to kick things off with Bidvertiser. I have written about Bidvertiser before, but I think it’s time for an update as there have been some changes.
What Is Bidvertiser?
Bidvertiser is a PPC advertising network offering publishers the opportunity to monetize their blog by running ads. A publisher makes money every time a visitor clicks on an ad.
Bidvertiser is not a contextual advertising program (like Google’s Adsense). This means the ad network is not smart enough to automatically select the ads best suited to your content.
The ads displayed on a publisher’s site are the subject of a bidding process. The idea is that ads from the advertiser with the highest bid will be shown on your site, thereby giving the publisher the chance to make more money from their advertising space. The only weakness in this strategy is that the highest paying advertiser is not necessarily the one most suited to your readers (ie. the ad most likely to be clicked). That being said, I have still done reasonably well from Bidvertiser when I have run their ads.
Ads are available in the following categories:
- Arts & Humanities
- Automotive
- Business
- Computer & Internet
- Education & Reference
- Entertainment & Leisure
- Games
- Health & Fitness
- Lifestyle & Family
- Money & Finance
- Movies & TV
- Music & Radio
- News & Media
- Web2.0 & Online Communities
- Pets Home & Garden
- Science
- Shopping
- Society
- Sports
- Travel
Each category also has a number of sub-categories.
Ad Formats
The following Ad Formats are available:
- Full Banner (468 X 60)
- Leaderboard (728 X 90)
- Half Banner (234 X 60)
- Vertical Banner (120 X 240)
- Wide Skyscraper (160 X 600)
- Skyscraper (120 X 600)
- Half Page Ad (300 X 600)
- Medium Rectangle (300 X 250)
- Vertical Rectangle (240 X 400)
- Large Rectangle (336 X 280)
- Rectangle (180 X 150)
- Square Button (125 X 125)
- Free Design - gives you practically almost complete controls over the size and layout of your ads right down to font type and size.
The color scheme of each format is fully customizable so you can blend the ads in with your rest of your website (or contrast them if that’s your desire).
Referral Program
Bidvertiser also offer a referral program whereby you can make extra money if you refer publishers or advertisers (or both). Bidvertiser will provide a referral button or text link with some tracking code behind it. Simply place this on your site to start referring new members to Bidvertiser.
Publishers
When you refer a publisher, you will be paid $10 once the publisher reaches the $10 earnings threshold. You will be paid an additional $40 once they reach the $50 earnings threshold.
Advertisers
When you refer an advertiser, you will be paid $5 when they spend their first $10 on advertising. You will be paid another $20 once they spend their first $50 in advertising.
Payment Methods
The following payment methods are available:
- Check
- Paypal
Minimum Payout
The minimum payout is $10 for Paypal or $50 for check payments. This makes the program extremely attractive when compared to Adsense which has a $100 minimum payout. I suspect there would be many publishers who never reach the $100 minimum payment for Adsense.
Payment Frequency
Payments are made monthly. Payments are sent within 30 days of the end of the month in which they were earned.
I have been paid multiple times so I can vouch for the credibility of Bidvertiser.
Who Is Bidvertiser Suited to?
If you run a smaller blog (ie. with lower traffic levels) and you are looking for ways to make extra money from your blog, the low payout level (only $10 for Paypal) may make Bidvertiser worth a try. And while I have only ever run Bidvertiser on this blog (ie. in the make money online niche), they seem to have had a reasonable inventory of advertisers - although I don’t know if that’s true of all the available categories. Even though the ads are not contextual, the categories are still specific enough to deliver reasonably well targeted ads.
Also, because they are not contextual, Bidvertiser might be a good option for sites which the contextual networks’ spiders have trouble navigating (eg. those that require a login, use flash, etc).
What’s The Downside?
I noticed in the ad code they provided to put on my website, there is a hidden link back to Bidvertiser with the anchor text internet marketing. For those that don’t know, the effect of this link is to pass on some of your site’s pagerank to Bidvertiser and give it a leg up for the search term internet marketing. And guess what? Bidvertiser is page one on Google for the search term internet marketing. I have read they do it with other keywords in the anchor text as well.
Now there is nothing wrong with the ad code providing a link back toBidvertiser. I am just concerned that the hidden anchor text is a little deceptive. I have emailed Bidvertiser support asking them to comment on the hidden link, but they haven’t responded yet.
UPDATE: I have just received a response from Bidvertiser. Their position is that the link is not hidden as the publisher is able to see it in the html code they place on their site. Also, they point out that no one is forcing a publisher to sign up to or continue using the Bidvertiser program. They have also relented on the nofollow issue. Bidvertiser have now said you can add a rel=”nofollow” to the link back to Bidvertiser.
Signing Up
The sign-up process is straight forward and ads will start showing as soon as you place the ad code on your website, although your site will still be subject to review. Click here to sign-up to Bidvertiser(aff).
Drop me a line if you have any feedback on Bidvertiser (both positive and negative). If you have any other ad networks you would like to see covered by a make money review, let me know.
