Increase Your Adsense Revenue With AdsBlackList

Are you sick of seeing clicks worth $0.01 on your Adsense Revenue reports? You’ve worked hard to bring the visitors to your site and the last thing you want is for them to click through to another site for a lousy 1 cent. AdsBlackList may well be the solution to your problem. AdsBlackList.com helps you filter out the ads with low payouts and improve your readers’ experience at the same time.
One of the likely causes of the low adsense payouts are Made For Adsense sites or MFA’s. These are normally Scraper Sites which contain almost no original content and whose goal is to get visitors to their site just to click on ads. MFA’s normally engage in Adsense Arbitrage, an activity whereby a publisher places low bids on certain keywords in an effort to drive traffic to their own site which displays ads for much higher paying keywords. So the clicks bought from you at $0.01 cent might be on-sold by an MFA for $0.50 or $1.00 or even more!
What Is AdsBlackList?
This is where AdsBlackList comes in. They maintain a database of MFA’s and other Low Cost Per Click (LCPC) advertisers. You will need to register to use the service, but once you have, you will be able to search the database for MFA’s and LCPC Advertisers either by keyword or by domain. There are 3 membership options - I have only tried the Basic (free) Account, but the premium options offer regular automatic updates and integration with adsense.
If you search by keyword, AdsBlackList will return a list of up to 200 (with the free membership option) blacklisted sites which are known to advertise using those keywords. These are the advertisers whose ads you don’t want on you site.
The other option is to search by domain. This might be useful if you are suspicious of a particular ad which keeps appearing on your website. Enter the domain of the advertiser into AdsBlackList to check whether they are an MFA or LCPC advertiser. To find the URL of an advertiser, right-click on the ad and select properties - theURL will be towards the end of the address listed. Remember not to left click on your own ads as this violates the Adsense Terms Of Service.
So How Do I Filter These Unwanted Ads?
Google provides a function within Adsense Setup called Competitive Ad Filter. The Competitive Ad Filter allows you block specific ads from appearing on your site by allowing you to supply a list of the advertisers’ URL’s. This can be done at the domain level or even down to a specific sub-directory if there is only one page you want to block. See below for examples:

The intent of this function is to prevent your competitor’s ads from appearing on your site, but in this case we can use it to block ads with low payouts or questionable products. Simply take the list of URL’s obtained from AdsBlackList and enter them into the Adsense Competitive Ad Filter list.
Improve Your Website’s Reputation As Well…
One of the problems with low quality ads it that visitors will associate your site with those who are advertising on your site. By removing most of the disreputable advertisers from your website, you will maintain or perhaps even enhance your site’s reputation.
Imagine a reader visiting your site for its quality content, then clicking on an ad for what they think is a relevant product or service. What if they were taken to a page which contained nothing but advertising - much of it not even relevant? They will be disappointed, and a part of the disappointment will be apportioned to your website.
Now imagine that same reader has clicked on a different ad, this time delivering them to a page which fulfills their expectations. This is a win-win situation. Your reader got what they were looking for and you increased your adsense revenue and hopefully your website’s reputation as well. Remember - you should be focussed on providing a quality service rather than just fleecing your readers as they pass through.
A Final Word Of Warning
Be careful - actual results may vary. In researching this article I came across a number of publishers who claimed their adsense revenue actually dropped when they started filtering advertisers using AdsBlackList. While there may have been other factors lowering these publishers’ earnings, it still pays to be cautious when changing anything which may effect the money making ability of your website. Make gradual changes and monitor the results. If something doesn’t work just stop doing it.
