Make it your mission to make the front page of Blogging Zoom. Succeed in your quest and the reward will be a stampede of fresh readers to your blog. Even if you don’t make the front page, the amount of traffic which can be delivered to your blog is nothing to sneeze at.
For those who haven’t heard of Blogging Zoom yet, it’s a Digg-like site exclusively for bloggers. You are encouraged to submit your own unique content to share with users of the site. If someone likes your post, they can zoom it. The more zooms your post gets, the greater the exposure. The most popular posts make the front page and will get the most exposure. So how can you make your next post zoom-worthy?
1. Start With Great Content
This may seem obvious, but it’s still the most important factor. The cornerstone of any blog promotion strategy is quality content. Think of it as going to a job interview - you aren’t going to wear your old jeans and and sneakers, you’re going to wear a suit (unless you’re a web developer).
Remember, when a reader first visits your blog, you only have a very short time to impress them. If they don’t like what they see, the odds are they wont come back. Each time someone reads a piece of your content, it will add to their perception of you and your blog. You need to continue producing quality content to attract and retain a loyal readership.
2. Give Your Post A Great Title
Just have a look at the posts which have zoomed well and you’ll notice they all have catchy titles. Make it controversial. Or use lists - people love lists. Your title should scream ‘Read Me!’ rather than just mumble ‘Drop by if you’re interested…’. You need to catch a reader’s eye. Also give some thought to your description. This is the next thing a reader will look at. Introduce your post and whet a reader’s appetite - but don’t give too much away. Leave them wanting more.
3. Put a Zoom Button On Your Posts
Put the Blogging Zoom Button on each of your posts and make it easier for readers to zoom your post (even those that may not normally use Blogging Zoom). It will also let you show off how well your posts are doing on Blogging Zoom.
You can find the code for the Blogging Zoom Button for the Blogger platform in a great post by Grizzly titled Blogging Zoom Stats - It Works.
4. Zoom Unto Others..
Be community minded and do a little zooming yourself. There are some great posts on Blogging Zoom already, so give credit where it’s due - zoom them. This is a great way to start networking with other bloggers. Once you have made some friends, don’t be afraid to let them know if you think you have submitted a great post. Get them to have a read and if them like it, they can zoom it.
5. Get the Timing Right
Try to submit your posts at ‘off-peak’ times - times that others aren’t submitting as much. This will give your post more time get noticed before it gets pushed down out of sight. Go to the Upcoming Posts tab at Blogging Zoom and monitor the frequency of submission at various times of the day. Also, Mondays and Fridays seem to do better for some reason.
While each of the strategies above is aimed at Blogging Zoom, they can also be applied to blog promotion more generally. The key is persistence. Keep posting quality content. Keep promoting it. Experiment - see what works well and what doesn’t work so well. Strategies that work for some niches may be less effective in others. Just keep trying and sooner or later, you will catch a break.
