Blogging for Passive Income

After an enforced layoff from blogging, I have just returned to the blogosphere and received a pleasant surprise. Monetize Your Blog has continued to make money (albeit a dribble rather than a flood) even though there has been nothing new posted here in quite some time.
While the traffic levels are not what they were when I was posting regularly, a steady stream of visitors have been landing on this blog even in my absence. The composition of this traffic is interesting as well. In the past, there was no dominant source of traffic. Visitors were being referred from other blogs, social media as well as search engines. In recent times traffic has been coming predominantly from search engines. It seems there are a few posts on this blog which the search engines have taken a particular liking to.
So what conclusions can be drawn from this? Perhaps a few well written posts which rank well in the search engines can do almost as well as a constant barrage of new content. I don’t know. But I do like the idea of owning a piece of web real estate which earns passive income 24 hours per day, each and every day of the year - whether I am there or not…
The Bad News
A not-so-pleasant surprise was the amount of spam which had accumulated in the comments on my posts. I know that sometimes there can be a fine line between legitimate comments and spam. And I try to be as understanding as possible when reading through any comments I receive, but some of the things people have written border on the ridiculous. I don’t mind a commenter leaving a link to their blog or other website provided they have something useful to say - that’s all part of blogging. However, pasting your agloco referrer link into a comment is beyond a joke.
ice dragon captured my thoughts succinctly in his comment “Every comment here looks like spam…” on my post Add Flare to your RSS Feed.
Lastly, I would like to thank all those who showed interest in Monetize Your Blog through comments and email during its hiatus. I will endeavor to respond to each of you as time permits.

Hey Brett, glad to have you back with us
The level of obscene bot-spam is getting worse every day it seems. If you’re back to blogging, you may want to consider a swap to WordPress or other platform which has better spam protection.
