New Google Adsense Program Policies

Google have recently changed their Adsense Program Policies making it harder for publishers to run other ad programs on their websites. Jensense summarizes the changes very well in her post titled AdSense Competitive Ads and Services Policy just got a lot tighter for publishers.

What does it mean for me? Well, I have been running both Adsense and Bidvertiser ads on Monetize Your Blog on the understanding that because Bidvertiser ads were not contextual, they were not in breach of the Adsense Program Policies.

However, with the latest changes to Google’s Adsense Program Policies, I am not so sure. Even though Bidvertiser is not contextual, the ads look very similar to Adsense and the color scheme I used for Bidvertiser matched that of Monetize Your Blog as does my Adsense color scheme.

According to the latest Google AdSense Program Policies:

In order to prevent user confusion, we do not permit Google ads or search boxes to be published on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colors as the Google ads or search boxes on that site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads cannot be confused with Google ads.

So, just to be safe, I am removing the Bidvertiser ads for now. This is a pity as they had a higher click through rate than my adsense ads. But I think I will give Bidvertiser another run sometime in the future.

Hi Govind. In Blogger, you will need to go to the Template tab, then add a new HTML/JavaScript Page Element. Paste in the Bidvertiser code and drag the new element to the preferred position on your blog.

Let me know if you need more info.

I get a big nasty error when I try to add Bidvertiser code to a Javascript element:
