Bidvertiser and Adsense - An unfair comparison?

I have been running both Adsense and Bidvertiser (aff) ads on Monetize Your Blog now for a while. The money earned from adsense has been nothing to write home about, but the money from Bidvertiser has been dismal. Not one single click - no money earned at all! It doesn’t get much worse than that.

However, comparing Adsense and Bidvertiser on that basis is not like comparing apples with apples. I am running three sets of Adsense ads on each page and they all have more prominent positions than my Bidvertiser ads. So, in the interests of fairness, I am moving my Bidvertiser ads up to my best earning Adsense ad position - the top leaderboard - to see if it can earn some money.

Why, you may ask, am I willing to sacrifice the potential money earned from Adsense in this way? Well, there are 2 reasons.

The purpose of this blog is to try out various ways of making money from blogging. I want to be able to give a fair and unbiased opinion of the money making programs that have worked on my blog. I don’t feel I can do that with Bidvertiser until I have given it a chance to earn money in my prime advertising space.

The second reason is Bidvertiser’s payout level. You only need to reach $10 in earnings before you get paid. With Adsense, the limit is $100. That’s a big difference. I wonder how many beginner bloggers earn enough to trigger that first payout from Adsense. The $10 minimum payout sounds much more reasonable to me.

So my plan is to run a Bidvertiser Leaderboard at the top of my blog for the next few weeks. Over that time, I will be monitoring the sorts of ads which are displaying, and the Click Through Rate achieved (if any). And of course the bottom line is the amount of money earned.

I think a real comparison between any ad program can only be made when there’s substantial traffic (1000+ uniques/day) and above.. at least that’s what I experienced for some of my blogs. :)

BTW, I write a blog (http://www.doshdosh.com) in a similar niche and was wondering if you would like to trade links. I’ve added your link so do let me know if you’re keen.

    Thanks!

I suspect you’re right Maki. Unfortunately I am not up to that level yet.

Also, thanks for the link. I like your blog. I have added Dosh Dosh to my Blogroll.

Just to let you know that running Bidvertiser ads with Adsense may cause Google to take action. I’m not sure, but I remember reading about this somewhere that Google frowns on similar contextualized ads on the same page as theirs. Are Bidvertiser ads contextualized?
But if it’s okay, enjoy your experiment with these ads.

I believe Bidvertiser ads are not contextual and therefore do not breach the Adsense TOS. When I searched on this topic, I found a number of people claiming they had received emails from Google confirming Adsense and Bidevertiser were okay together as Bidvertiser are not contectual.

Hi DotMySpot. I don’t know why Bidvertiser is not working. I have removed it now anyway as Google have changed their Adsense Program Policy.
