Traffic Update

It’s now been two weeks since I started Monetize Your Blog. It’s time to check on how much traffic the blog has received so far.

According to Google Analytics (read about it here) which I set up about 10 days ago, I have had a staggering 8 unique visitors. That is less than one each day! I guess I need to continue submitting my blog to blog directories and investigate other ways of generating traffic to the blog.

On the plus side, someone has left a comment and it sounded positive.

    Good luck to you.

I don’t like doing this, but I have just posted a little article on traffic on my blog, feel free to have a read. I publicised my blog on 15th Nov and have had 900 visitors so some of it works. I’ve also just ‘Stumbled’ you so you may get a few more.

Also it may be old advice, but getting onto other people’s blogs and commenting has got me a large portion of my traffic-the hyperlink in my name has been enough, no spamming required. I’ve subscribed to you, so I’ll be interested to see what happens.

Thanks Chris. I like your article on traffic. I had not heard of StumbleUpon before. I will go and check it out.

I had read about the concept of commenting on other peoples’ blogs to help generate traffic to your own. I haven’t been terribly active yet as I am not sure where genuine comments end and spam begins.

Its not as hard as you think. After starting my blog, I ’set out’ to start commenting on peoples blogs, but I definitely didn’t want to spam. I soon found that blogs I enjoyed reading were very easy to comment on & you soon build good relations with the blogger. They check out your site ‘cos you made a nice comment, not spam, and a couple of nice folks even then wrote a post about my blog.

With blogs I had no interest in, I couldn’t find anything so say so I didn’t.

My advice would be to find a blog you enjoy & just drop a few simple comments off at. Look at their ‘blogroll’ and follow it & you will probably find some more like-minded bloggers, where it’ll be easy to comment on & off you go…

It’s hard at first but soon becomes fun-it’s kind of like meeting new people in the real world.
