How Can You Monetize Your Blogspot Blog?

What options do you have if you want to monetize Blogger blogs? I know Blogger is not considered a serious money making blog platform by some Wordpress users, but it does have its advantages. It’s free and it’s easy to use. But the downside is that you are at the mercy of Google. They can change the terms and conditions and even the platform itself whenever they like. Also, if you manage to build a successful blogger blog, you can’t really sell it.

There are plenty of monetization strategies available for Blogger. It’s really just a matter of finding out what will work for you. If you receive a lot of search engine traffic then contextual ad programs like Google’s Adsense can be a good option. However if you have a lot of repeat visitors and regular readers, you may need to explore other options. Here some of the more common ways to monetize Blogger blogs. Continue reading this article…

Does Low CTR Really Cause Adsense Smart Pricing?

Posted on January 24, 2008
Filed Under Adsense Tips | 3 Comments

I kept hearing about Adsense Smart Pricing but like most bloggers who make money with Adsense I didn’t know exactly what it was. Then in the last couple of weeks I had an experience which caused me to look further into it.

Like a lot of things to do with Google there seems to be plenty of opinion and speculation floating about, but little in the way of confirmed facts. As far as I can tell, smart pricing occurs when Google applies automatic price adjustments to certain clicks from content publishers. The idea is that publishers who provide clicks which don’t convert well will make less money per click. Google’s stated goal with smart pricing is to improve advertiser ROI. You can now make money blogging by putting a ScratchBack TopSpot widget on your blog. ScratchBack has been described as an online tipping system where readers can show their appreciation for your work by leaving you a tip. In return the tipper gets to place an ad on the TopSpots widget on your blog. The ad comprises a 20 character text link and a 75 character message which is displayed when a reader moves their mouse over the link.

Despite the intent of the ScratchBack TopSpot widget, it is essentially another advertising program for your blog. But it does have a few twists.

The recent experience of Betshopboy should remind us all of the importance of choosing a reliable hosting service as well as making sure we have a suitable backup process in place.

In his post The Nightmare Before Christmas, Betshopboy describes his experience of having an extended outage on his blog and not even being sure whether he would be able to get all of his content back. The loss of service was due to the misdeeds of the reseller he was hosted with. I encourage you to read about Betshopboy’s ordeal. 3 Step Guide To Blog Promotion With Blog Carnivals

Can your spare half an hour each week to promote your blog? For a smaller blog, spending that time submitting your posts to blog carnivals could be a profitable use of your time. The benefits are twofold. First is the traffic you will gain. The amount of traffic to be gained will depend upon the popularity of the carnival and the traffic levels at the blog hosting the carnival. But the other benefit is getting backlinks. For each carnival you will get one link to your post and sometimes a second link to your home page.

This strategy works on a weekly cycle. Try to submit at the same time each week. This makes it easier to track what carnivals you’ve submitted to. I’ll discuss this point more under step 2.

SEO - Backlink Anchor Text Optimization

Backlink Anchor TextSEO & Anchor Text Optimization. One of the things I learned about in Marhgil Macuha’s recent mini-SEO competition is the importance of backlinks and the backlink anchor text in search engine optimization. There are lots of things you can do on a web page to optimize it’s position in the search engine rankings, but equally important (or perhaps even more important) are the off-page techniques you employ.

Chief amongst these is obtaining backlinks. Baclinks are hyperlinks from other web pages into your own web page. The number and quality of these has a big bearing in where you rank in search results. And anchor text links will tell the search engines what keywords you should rank for.

Make Money From Your Blog’s RSS Feed With BidVertiser Ads

BidVertiser RSS AdsI received an email from BidVertiser today telling me about a new service - BidVertiser Ads for Feeds. Since I’ve used BidVertiser before on this blog and wrote a review of BidVertiser recently (see Make Money Review - Bidvertiser), I thought I would look into their new Ad service for RSS feeds. It might be another good way to make money blogging

The information about the service was fairly minimal, so to find out how it worked, I tried it out on one of my other blogs. I’d also noticed that to use the service, BidVertiser would need to re-publish my RSS feed. Because I currently use Feedburner and quite like the service, I had concerns about switching over to BidVertiser as my RSS feed provider. It would have meant publicizing a new feed address and trying to convert all of my existing subscribers to the new address.

Meta Description TagAre you using a Meta Description Tag? Are you making the most of your position in the Search Engine Results from Google? You may have done all the hard work to get your blog ranked on the first page of results on Google, but if you aren’t using a meta description tag in your posts, you may well be missing out on valuable visitors from Google.

Let’s face it - Google is the main game when it comes to building traffic to your website. Being dugg or stumbled upon can bring a heap of traffic in a short period, but a lot of it’s not well targeted. Google on the other hand, will deliver a constant stream of visitors to your website - all of them looking for what you have to offer. This is very important if you are trying to make money blogging. You want visitors interested in what you’re selling.

Are You Making The Most Of Google’s Search Statistics

Posted on January 2, 2008

ToolYour stats show you what searches people used to find your blog, and how many clicks you’re getting for each of those searches. But what they don’t show is what clicks you’re missing out on. They wont tell you about the searchers who get one of your pages in their search results, but who don’t click on your link.

Who knows more about what people are searching for than Google? So why not go to the source? I’ve written about Google Webmaster Tools before, but there is a feature I missed when I reviewed them the first time. It’s called Top Google Searches.
